<Description>Augustine’s restaurant was recently acknowledged by Food &amp; Wine Magazine as the leading Cork city restaurant in their “Best Restaurant in Munster Top 10”. Previously located opposite St. Augustine’s Church on Washington St, Cork, Augustine’s Restaurant is now located in the Clarion Hotel in the Lapps Quay City Quarter, Cork City.
Open from Tuesday to Saturday from 6pm with availability 7 days a week for private functions, Augustine’s Restaurant is a lifelong dream of Brendan &amp; Carol Cashman. Brendan Cashman is the head chef and patron, while Carol Cashman manages all other aspects of the restaurant with great care and passion.
The concept of Augustine’s is to provide the customer with a complete dining experience in the true sense of a traditional “Restaurant”. The style of food can best be described as Franco/Italian with a modern Irish influence. The emphasis however remains on local &amp; artisan foods, produced with passion, care and refinement. This combined with the Cashman’s dedication to high standards of customer care, forms the bedrock of the Augustine’s ethos.
As well as excellent reviews from customers, acknowledgement from Food &amp; Wine Magazine, Augustine’s Restaurant also secured high praise from well-known food critic Tom Doorley, when he stated “This has been one of my most rewarding discoveries over the past year ….it has given Cork somewhere to brag about…..Cork food is better for this place.”
A full a la carte menu is available every evening from Tuesday through Saturday (6-10pm). Due to the popularity of our Christmas menus, we are not able to offer the tasting menu for the remainder of December 2010. We will be delighted to serve our 5 course tasting menu, featured in Tom Doorley’s recent review, once again in January. We look forward to welcoming you to Augustine’s restaurant very soon”.
The restaurant will be open Sunday 30th October Jazz Sunday night of the Bank Holiday weekend for Dinner! </Description>

<comment>Augustines is located in the main restaurant at the Clarion Hotel, and while the restaurant decor itself can certainly be recognised as 'hotel-y', the location itself is very good if a city centre venue is what you are looking for.

We were greeted by a very friendly maitre d' who it turns out was genuinely interested in each dining group without being OTT. He explained to us that there were two menus, the 6 course tasting menu currently priced at €25 and the A la carte menu where courses were individually priced. He told us what each item on the tasting menu was.

With a glass of prosecco each we perused the menu and were not disappointed.

As it was a special occasion we decided that we would go for the A la Carte but vowed that we would return soon again to sample the other.

We had Carpaccio of English market spiced beef and Quali to start.
Onglet Of Artisan Beef and Timoleague Pork for mains and finished with the cheese board and a lemon posset. I had a Quinta do Crasto Port which was recommended by the waitress. This was the only disappointment of the night. I like a robust port, this one was not. I could go into detail about each course we had but I can sum it up by saying EVERYTHING was delicious and presentation was superb. Warm breadrolls are offered with starters and main course and they were delicious too. You are offered a choice of sparkling, still or plain old 'tap water', which is a nice touch for those of us who are not water snobs.

Service was very friendly, each course was explained briefly when they arrived at the table.

At €145 for 2, this was more than what we would normally pay, however, this fine dining experience was definitely worth it and did include 2 pre dinner drinks, 3 courses each, a bottle of Pinot Grigio at €28 and a port to accompany the cheese course, bread and water It was very much worth but, of course there is always that great value tasting menu if you don't want to break the bank. Can't wait to return there again. </comment>

<comment>Its rare I agree with Tom Doorly on anything but I fear I must concede on Augustines. Gorgeous food - had the six course taster menu and great value. Staff were great and only issue with the restaurant was that toilets were in main hotel lobby.</comment>

<comment>The servive and the staff were second to none, there was a lovely atmosphere, which even on a tuesday night was nicely busy.
Having decided to skip the starter and go for a main course and desert, the main course was 100pc, perfect presentation, taste, maybe more of selection of veg, but faultless otherwise.

The desert was however less then i had expected. Again presented perfectly, but the apple desert was a little tasteless and dry.

I was surprised that the taster menu could only be opted for if everyone on the table was having it! I dont know why that is, but is a shame.

Overall, yes would go back again, but would try others first.
Think the olde smaller venue couple years ago was better! </comment>

<comment>Ate here last week and had a very good time. The food was terrific with a couple of very tiny gripes. The risotto starter was fantastic and my partners onglet of beef very good indeed. The tiny gripes being that a dish of fairly bland potatoes were served with the main course and apart from lack of taste, weren't really needed as the main was pretty perfect as it was. I had a brulee for dessert, it was lovely in terms of taste but while the top was luke warm the bottom was pretty icy. Still let it be said I finished every mouthful. The restauarnt was quite empty that night, I'd have prefered a bit more atmosphere but as I say small complaints in an otherwise excellent evening.</comment>

<comment>We visited last Tuesday 23/5. We had the tasting menu as it had been recommended. It is described in detail in other recent reviews so I won't describe it again. I liked the way each course was described before it was set down and overall service was as good as I have ever had in Cork. Our food was sublime with each course well considered and beautifully presented. The tasting menu is excellent value, I can't wait to go back.</comment>

<comment>Went here last Friday evening for the tasting menu. Incredible meal, incredible value, incredible quality, wonderful service especially by the dutch sommelier/maître d'. The chef put together a stunning 6 course feast which was faultless. I had the same courses as the last reviewer and he explained them very well so I won't repeat every course. Can't wait to go back. </comment>

    <comment>AUGUSTINE'S CLASSY €25.00 TASTING MENU

AUGUSTINE’S
I walked confidently into Augustine’s last evening, confident in the knowledge that I was going to get an excellent meal. Standards are constantly high here, never a let-down for this customer.

It is a treat to call here: friendly welcome and then, once the coats and jackets are put away, an informative little session at the table where the different dishes are outlined and explained (if needed).

You need a little advice? No problem. Last evening, I had to curtail my wine-drinking as I were going out again later on. That meant I didn't (but I will next time) take up the offer of three specially selected wines to accompany the €25.00 Tasting Menu. I was wondering about a compromise rosé on the list and then our advisor offered me a glass of their newly arrived Rosé Frizzante from Piedmont.

There are six courses on the 2011 Tasting Menu here. Got off to lively start with a little Gooseberry Cordial and that was followed by a most delightfully cooked Sea Bass, with root veg and peanut vinaigrette.

On then to the Cauliflower Potage which is brought to the table and poured over praline, deep fried Thyme and a little Truffle Oil. Dish number four was Pork Belly on Puy lentils and served with Potato Gratin, again beautifully done and presented.

Then onto the Milleens Cheese and caramelised plum, yet another perfect match. Finished off with a Surprise Dessert that turned out to be Mixed Berry Jelly with raspberry sorbet and coulis. Melt in the mouth finale leaving one happy punter about to settle up and promise to anyone who’d listen that he’d be back, a promise meant to be kept.

Early on, I had some breads from the selection offered. Enjoyed very much the Walnut and Raisin and also the Parmesan. And that Italian Rosé? Very tasty indeed, lovely red berry fruit, nice acidity and a very pleasant Frizz! Summer in a bottle even it was somewhat less than summery on Lapps Quay.</comment>
